What is the Mexican Standoff? This was a movement spawned from the defeat of Prop 37. This is a movement for a wider food-system reform. This isn’t a debate about organic vs. non-organic. This is a debate about education, and knowledge. People should maintain their right to eat “Franken-Food” all day long if they so choose. All we are asking is that these foods be labeled.

The Fight Against GMO’s Our issue with GMO’s is the FACT that we do NOT KNOW what “hidden” effects they may have on the environment or on us. The function of Trans fats should serve to demonstrate that even a slight “artificial” modification might turn out to make food items unhealthy to consume over long periods of time. Sure, it is possible GMO’s might turn out to be completely safe…BUT, we do not have solid evidence.

Scientific Evidence Quandary Then there is the question about the scientific evidence that is out there currently, you must stop and think about what the special interest and motivations are whenever we get “new” products and new technology. I find it to be somewhat bias. I’m not trying to get all ‘conspiracy theory’ on this, just encouraging a bit of critical thinking. I saw an interview by a very well respected scientist who I admire, and was disappointed when she said she was against this proposition. Her point was that GMO’s increase production and from a hunger perspective, it is a sound argument. However, the dependency on them (I feel) may prevent us from coming up with more eco-friendly alternatives.

Thou art Revolutionary That’s the beauty about the United States of America. Whether or not you choose to make your choices informed ones or not is up to you. There is also a little something called “The Consumer Bill of Rights” {Thanks JFK} We are not farmers, We rely on grocery stores to provide our food and produce, We have the Power and the RIGHT to know what we are consuming, this doesn’t just apply to food. You have every right to ask questions, to make a change, to make a difference. Que Viva La Revolucion!
